Keys to Success

The recipients of the city’s Business Recognition Awards have proven their success indeed.  How did they get there?  Each would have a different story to tell and would probably have their own “keys to success”.  Working with thousands of entrepreneurs and business owners over the past 15 years, the Aurora BDC would like to share our ‘keys to success”, that while they cannot guarantee success, they can certainly increase the likelihood of a thriving business.  If your business holds each of the following keys, you could be well on your way to winning business awards left and right!

  • Have a comprehensive business plan
  • Funded correctly
  • Experience growth over time
  • Priced right
  • Practice “extreme” customer service
  • Seek help when needed
  • Have a vision and strategy
  • Have the necessary management skills
  • Need to be adaptable

The Aurora BDC is excited to announce that its 2007 brochure and seminar schedule will be available for distribution and on our web site beginning mid-December.  Once again, we have attempted to improve our programs to better meet the needs of the small business community.  Here is just a preview of some of the changes we’ve made:

The Obtaining Business Financing seminar will be FREE next year and will provide an overview of what every business owner needs to know about seeking business financing.

NEW! Getting Results from Your Web Site – Participants in this seminar will learn ways in which they can increase the effectiveness of their Web sites.  Bonus!  All participants receive a FREE one-on-one evaluation of their Web sites using the principles outlined in the seminar.

Artist Workshops – The Aurora BDC will again partner with The Other Side Arts in Aurora to offer two workshops geared for emerging artists throughout the metropolitan area.  One will focus on the legal concerns for artists, including copyrighting and trademarks, and the other will concentrate on the marketing of artwork.

Client Showcase – In conjunction with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business-to-Business Expo in July 2007, the Aurora BDC will host a client showcase, enabling our clients to have a booth at this popular Chamber trade show and networking event.

Brochures will be mailed by the end of the year, but please call us if you do not receive one or download a copy from our Web site at www.aurorabdc.com, beginning in mid-December.

Aurora Businesses Honored

Area entrepreneurs, elected officials and community leaders recently gathered to recognize four outstanding businesses during the city of Aurora’s 2006 Business Recognition Awards Program.  Now in its second year, the Business Recognition Program is an initiative created by the Aurora City Manager Ron Miller to honor new and existing businesses within the city that are enjoying success as a result of innovation, exemplary customer service delivery, and/or through a strong contribution to the community.

Members of the city’s Business Advisory Board selected recipients based on several criteria, including longevity, innovation, significant capital investment and the generation of major revenues.  The 2006 honorees included:

Adolfson & Peterson Construction – Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Adolfson & Peterson Construction is among the city’s most successful companies, with more than 190 employees and revenues that in 2005 surpassed $151 million.

Lupita’s Restaurant – Offering a variety of delectable Latin American dishes with a distinct Peruvian flair, Lupita’s has served as a delicious destination for thousands of diners who visit the historic East Colfax Avenue corridor.

Padgett Business Services – Established in 1995, Padgett Business Services provides financial reporting and tax consultation to thousands of the city’s small businesses.  This local office has become the company’s 10th largest franchise in the nation.

PhoshoSolutions, LLC – This biotechnology company is developing products to benefit the health of millions worldwide by producing antibodies that facilitate the research of proteins, which are instrumental in the development and production of target-based drugs.

“Aurora is proud to salute the accomplishments of these extraordinary companies, “ said Jude Sandvall, BAB Chair and owner of ProValue Construction.  For more information on all of the award recipients, click here http://www.aurorabdc.com/
