Why the SBA 8(a) Program Makes “Cents”

There are a number of excellent reasons – literally billions -- for you to determine if your company qualifies for 8(a) and/or SDB certifications.
The most recent contract figures for the two programs were $5.8 billion and an additional $7.2 billion respectively.

The Small Business Administration's 8(a) Program was created in 1974 to help minority and other disadvantaged businesses to grow through a program of federal contracting preferences and set-asides. Through the program, eligible firms can be awarded federal government contracts on a sole-source or non-competitive basis.

To be a truly effective business development vehicle, today's 8(a) Business Development Program is much stronger. New regulations permit 8(a) companies to form beneficial partnerships and allow Federal agencies to streamline the contracting process. New rules make it easier for non-minority firms to participate by proving their social disadvantage. Read more...

Yume Tran is an accomplished chef and restaurateur. She has contributed her time to the Aurora Business Development Center's seminar on "Starting a Restaurant or Food Business". By way of thanks, the Aurora BDC highlights Yume for her accomplishments and expertise. Yume is the owner of Indochine Cuisine a popular restaurant in Parker, Colorado. Besides managing the restaurant, she teaches cooking classes and is publishing a cookbook of her own creative recipes. She recently won an award for Best Taste Sensation during the culinary arts extravaganza at the 10th Aurora Asian Film Festival, held in Aurora's East End Arts District (pictured above in red and with emcee Kim Nguyen, Managing Editor of TheDenverChannel.com).
