Outstanding Businesses Recognized

Immediate past City Manager, Ron Miller, inaugurated the Aurora Business Recognition Awards in 2005 with the intent of recognizing and celebrating outstanding local businesses that help Aurora's community thrive. On behalf of the Business Advisory Board and local businesses, the awards committee recognized Mr. Miller on November 17th for his vision and the tremendous support he has shown to the business community over the years.

Interim City Manager, Nancy Freed, stated, "We are fortunate to have so many great businesses in Aurora – but we have something even better – businesses that care enough about our community to get involved, and to give back...  The importance of this type of leadership cannot be overstated.  It helps create the synergy and partnerships that make this already vibrant city even better.."

Facebook in 1st Place

A recent study has shown that some 25 percent of U.S. page views belong to Facebook. According to Experian Hitwise, U.S. internet users were recorded to view Facebook more than any other site in the week finishing November 13th 2010.  In second and third place were YouTube and Google respectively. Facebook's share has grown by 60 percent from the same week last year, which is representative of its rapid expansion.  Meanwhile, the social networking site hosted some one in ten page visits during that week, which is more than search engine Google.  Writing in an article for ClickZ last month, Jonathan Shapiro of MediaWhizz suggests Facebook and Google are fast becoming competitors, something which may have been advanced by the former's partnership with Bing to bring a social facet to standard search.
