A core service of the Aurora Business Development Center is the annual slate of business seminars.  Taking one or more Aurora business seminars is the best way, at no or low cost, to get a wealth of information in three-hour sessions - - from business planning to marketing strategies, from bookkeeping to sales tax, from government contracts to the food business. Taking an informative class prior to making an appointment with a counselor will make the one-on-one time more productive and focused.

New Location - Same Quality Service!

The Aurora BDC will relocate to the Aurora Municipal Center as of April 1st.

To improve efficiency at the city of Aurora and to offer small business clients easy access to various departments within the city, the Aurora BDC will be moving to the Aurora Municipal Center (AMC) the last week of March.  The Aurora BDC is now with the Development Services Division within the Planning and Development Services Department at the city, and the office is moving to the 2nd floor of the AMC. All small business seminars, unless otherwise noted, will take place at the AMC. Specific room location will be confirmed with attendees upon required pre-registration.

Beginning April 1st, all counseling will take place at the AMC by appointment only. This will allow time for scheduling a private room for confidentiality purposes, always a priority with our Small Business Specialists. While visiting us at the AMC, you can make several stops at once--Tax & Licensing or Permits, for instance. The Aurora Central Library, which houses an excellent selection of business reference and informational books, is located on the same campus.

So, take note, the Aurora BDC is on the move and will be ready to help our small business clients by April 1st! In the meantime, please feel free to contact a Small Business Specialist - - the telephone number remains the same: (303) 326-8690.

Protect the Family From the Family Business

Succession can be painless - -
Author Kent McSparran states, "Family business brings a complicated dynamic not only to the workplace but to the dinner table as well. Studies have shown that most family businesses don’t survive beyond the first generation, and there are good reasons why. It is very easy to entangle business concerns with family issues. That’s why every family business should realize that the family itself is the most important part of the equation."

"In order to be fair to both the business and the family, the business should be run on pre-determined, guiding principles."   Read more...
