Your Business Might Benefit from Translation Services

Bridging the Gaps, Inc. provides translation services for individuals, nonprofit organizations and businesses.  The services range from translating documents for language accuracy and cultural usage to on-site interpretations of one-on-one verbal communication.  Bridging the Gaps also provides translation services for new-immigrant classes.

Ms. Hyun-Kyung Kim owns and operates the business. For many years, she worked with the medical community in translating medical terminology for Korean-speaking clients. Bridging the Gaps is also the outgrowth of many years of volunteer opportunities Ms. Kim engaged in shortly after emigrating from Korea to the United States, including for police departments, schools and churches.

Ms. Kim will be expanding her services to include evaluations of web sites for idiomatic expressions that may help convey a more intended meaning than another word, or, where the idiomatic expression may literally confuse the reader. For example, Chevy Nova translates from English to Spanish as “Chevy does not go”.  It would be difficult to sell cars in Mexico and Spain using that model name.

With the assistance of the Aurora Business Development Center, Ms. Kim organized and created her business. She continues her relationship with the center because of the wide range of services that are available to start-up and existing businesses.

GO GREEN:  Lower Energy Consumption and Save Dollars

Saving money on day-to-day operations is always a good idea. Get started this March by following a few tips to go 'green':

  • Turn down the heat by just one degree - - a savings of
    8 – 10%;
  • Reduce heating in storage areas and during holidays, weekends, or any other time the building is empty;
  • Most office equipment, such as computers, monitors, faxes and printers, have energy saving devices--make it a point to mechanically turn on those features;
  • Always switch computer monitors off when not in use, they consume almost half the total energy of a computer;
  • Make use of natural light when possible and reduce your energy bill;
  • Energy-saving light bulbs use 75% less electricity than standard bulbs and last much longer;
  • Paint rooms with lighter color paint because the additional light makes people feel warmer;
  • Create a campaign to motivate employees to save energy, and then monitor the usage of oil and electricity to show the savings.

IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN...UNLESS YOU'RE IRISH

St. Patty's Day

"There can be no
tradition without innovation."
- Earle Hitchner,
Irish music journalist

"Those who drink to forget, please pay in advance."
- Sign at the Hibernian
Bar, Cork City

May the luck o' the Irish
be yours...AND may your bottom line be greener!

Did you know there are more than 40 million people in the U.S. who claim some degree of Irish ancestry?

Consider ways that your business can join in the St. Patrick's Day celebrations.  All it takes is a little green: green banners or buttons, four-leaf clover cut outs, "Kiss Me I'm Irish" t-shirts or some Irish music playing in the background. Anything green - - whether it's green tea or green beer - - might help pull in some extra business, be it Irish or not!  Here's a web site devoted to the Irish or Irish-at-heart: http://www.st-patricks-day.com. Check it out for some business ideas of your own!

A quaint shop on Havana in Aurora is The English Teacup. Stop by 1930 So. Havana St. #5 for some tea and scones with marmalade on St. Patty's Day or any day. Their shelves are filled with imported delights.
